In 1995 the “Tisa” course was opened for women. In 1998 TZAHAL flight school had its first female graduate. Since then, more than 40 women have graduated from the flight school. Pilots are the air force elite of the Israeli Army. They are either combat aircraft, cargo aircraft, or helicopter pilots.

It is not easy to get a position of a firefighter in TZAHAL because recruitment to this unit is limited in comparison with the more popular positions. Nevertheless, this position does exist, and if you really desire this position there is a possibility to serve in the Israeli army in the capacity of a “Kabaya”.(more…)
For recruits, who used to do swimming, there is a position of lifeguard at Air Force base’s pools (Heil HaAvir). «Matzila baBriha” is quite a rare position, but an excellent opportunity for sportswomen to “pursue their occupation” during their service in TZAHAL. “Matzilim” fulfill two main functions of a lifeguard and a swimming pool administrator. Soldiers in this position obtain a rescuer card accepted by the Ministry of labor, which is valid both in the army and in civilian life.

There is an army store for soldiers at almost every base of the Israeli Army, which is more commonly known as “Shekem”. The chain changes its name from time to time and today the stores are called “Kaveret”. The “Kaveret” manager at a base is a position fulfilled by a TZAHAL soldier. Holding this post, men serve the customers of the store, keep accounts and inventory balances, work with suppliers, and keep track of the sales balance sheet.
