YALTAM (Navy forces) – women
Since 2004 YALTAM has been open for women. The special forces unit YALTAM for tasks executed underwater (Yahida leMesisot Tam-Yamiyot) is a part of the elite Israeli Naval TZAHAL combat unit (Heil HaYam) which are tasked with diving and completing complicated underwater assignments.
This unit’s missions include underwater bomb detection, disarming, welding, cutting and other kinds of work with steel constructions at the depth, carrying out classified experiments underwater, as well as assistance in Naval vessel maintenance in hard-to-reach locations.
Besides, the «Yahida» unit takes part in underwater rescue operations, conducts joint training with foreign special forces units in Israel and abroad to rescue submarines, to practice deep sea dives and to defuse bombs and munitions.
YALTAM often conducts joint military operations with armed patrol boats (Satilim), Navy seals (Shayetet 13), and also with a special unit Yahalom (Engineering corps), and Israeli police.
→The training course is 12 months long, during which soldiers follow basic military training (Rovai 02), professional deep-sea diving courses, de-mining training, underwater search and detection training, acquire vessels repair skills, learn navigational skills and a lot more.
→There are two ways to be accepted to the YALTAM unit:
- To pass “Gibbush” selection to the Snapir unit. The best soldiers of the course can apply for enrollment in the YALTAM unit.
- Through the Shayetet 13 or Hovlim units (Navy Captains)
The YALTAM special unit soldiers can dive to a depth of up to 100 meters.

Medical profile 72-97
Passing all kinds of selection («Gibbush»)
Technical knowledge and diving skills increase the chance of being recruited to the unit

The training course is 12 months long and most of soldiers sign a few years contract in this unit.
