Electronic warfare (Lochemed lamed alef) – women
EW soldiers or electronic warfare soldiers (“Lochem lechima electronit”) unit relates to “hel-tikshuv” (telecommunication technologies). The unit soldiers’ main tasks are jamming radio signals, capturing and «taking over» enemy’s television and radio systems on the ground, at sea, and in the air.
As part of service in TZAHAL cyber units, the soldiers use a full range of electronic warfare systems and state-of-the-art technologies.
→The training length includes 9 months of basic training (tironut) and 5 months of the core course. Women “Lamed alef” follow infantry unit training for level 03 (Rovaeii), armored troop carrier drivers’ education, a parachute jumping course and a lot more.
→Upon training completion the cyber unit’s soldiers are assigned to one of the TZAHAL units in the capacity of combat soldiers or they become “Lamed alef” new recruits training instructors.
→Further on it is possible to enroll in leadership and officer courses.
→The term of military service in this unit is 32 months (women sign a contract to extend their service term from 24 to 32 months).
It is possible to be accepted to this unit after having been selected to the computer unit (“Eshkol”) in telecommunication technologies (“Hel Tikshuv”), and after additional tests and a personal interview for the position of “Lochem lechima electronit”.
After finishing military service, the Israeli EW soldiers have a good opportunity to be employed in civilian life.
